Obsession with obesity-weight loss to the extreme

Weight RSS Feed

While it's important to be aware of the foods we put into our bodies as well as the amount of exercise we get, having an obsession with obesity is not healthy. It's all about balance. Keeping your outlook healthy can prevent you from gaining weight and or losing interest in physical activity, but if you become obsessed you might well find yourself going too far the other direction and actually developing some dangerous eating disorders.

It's not rocket science and even though temptation is all around us, it's really not that hard to stay on track and keep ourselves healthy. It's really just finding the right balance between eating the right amount and right types of food along with getting enough physical activity throughout your day.

To make sure that you don't allow an obsession with obesity to take hold of you, but to keep yourself healthy too, here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Have realistic expectations. You may not ever look like a movie star but you can maintain a healthy weight for your age, gender body type and height. It's all relative, what might be a healthy weight for me, won't be healthy for you. If you're just not sure what the best weight for you should be, ask your doctor. She knows you, your age, your body type, etc. and can help you find the best percentage of body fat and weight for you.

2. If you are currently overweight, set up a realistic time frame for losing the excess body weight. Don't freak out, just go at it one step and one day at a time. Keep the whole process healthy.

3. Instead of focusing solely on only one aspect such as diet or exercise, focus on both, diet and exercise. Sure, you can do one or the other but your results will be quicker if you combine both at the same time. Not only will you get where you want to be more quickly, you will also maintain a healthy body.

Even if you eat right and aren't overweight, you still may not be as healthy as you should be if you aren't getting any exercise. Our bodies are made to move and if they don't they can become susceptible to many diseases. So, it's about more than just how much weight you have, it's about how strong your body is too.

4. Even if you eat well your body may still be lacking in vital nutrients. Taking a quality multi-vitamin daily is a good way to ensure that your body is receiving all the nutrients it needs.

5. And of course, no discussion about nutrition and health would be complete without mentioning the importance of getting plenty of sleep and drinking plenty of water. You have to provide your body with all of it's needs, not just food, in order to ensure it stays healthy.

Having an obsession with obesity is not healthy, but neither is obesity. Instead strike a balance, take control of your health but don't allow yourself to swing wildly from one extreme to another.
