Stretch marks after weight loss

Weight RSS Feed

Many times we think of stretch marks after weight loss only in the context of pregnancy. But, the truth is, that anytime we are overweight we can get stretch marks. There are some things you can do to help them fade so they simply aren't so noticeable.

For one thing, talk to your dermatologist and see what they recommend. I'm not a doctor or an expert, but as far as I know there is nothing that will make them go away completely.

I know I still have some from when I was pregnant and my youngest is 20 years old. But, I also know that they have faded... a lot. I look great in a two piece bathing suit (not trying to brag, just to let you know that they do fade).

There are a lot of creams and lotions that are advertised to help fade stretch marks. You may want to try a few brands to see if any of them work for you.

Here is a list of some of the most common stretch mark products you can try:

1. Vitamin E oil, baby oil and even olive oil have been found to help fade stretch marks. To get the most out of the oils, rub into your skin several times a day, everyday.

2. Aloe Vera. Aloe has been popular and helpful with a multitude of skin problems for many years. This all natural product can be easily found in pretty much any store that sells cosmetics or body care products. Just follow the label directions.

3. Your doctor may prescribe prescription treatments for your stretch marks. One of the most common is Retin-A. Make sure you carefully discuss potential side effects and use only as your doctor recommends.

Everyone has different types of skin and some people have skin that is more elastic than others. If your skin is real elastic you may not have many problem with stretch marks in the first place.

Even if you do, it's possible that they won't be as deep or wide and therefore will fade more quickly and easily.

I have recently read that there are laser treatments now available that can help fade, or possibly even remove, stretch marks. It's something you may want to talk to your dermatologist about to see if it really works and is it likely to work on your skin type and in your situation.

Many times there is not much we can do to prevent stretch marks. Whether the weight gain was due to a growing spurt, being overweight or a pregnancy, stretch marks happen to a lot of people, not just women.

No one likes to have them and there may be some remedies that can help you fade, or maybe even get rid of your stretch marks. The thing to remember is that when you've lost your weight you will feel better, look better and be healthier, so don't get too caught up on the idea of
stretch marks after weight loss.
