Diet
Diet
It is a sad fact that every time we hear the word "diet," we immediately think of weight loss, and yet countless people around the globe are now overweight.
Diet is really just about what you eat, but it has become associated with dieting, weight loss, and the suffering, deprivation, and frustration of trying reduce some weight.
It doesn't have to be this way if you watch your diet and do some form of exercise at least three times a week. What you add to your diet is key, as well as what you deprive yourself of. In fact, there is really no need to deprive yourself in your diet if you eat in moderation.
And even if you "fall off the wagon" and indulge in something like ice cream, it doesn't have to be a diet disaster if you are exercising and staying fit. Treats are allowed. The main issue is that people do not always know what is actually in their diet.
For instance, everyone says that ice cream is a bad food, but how many people stop consider the coffee they drink in the morning at a popular beverage chain we won't even bother to mention the name of. Talk about a diet buster! One large special beverage there has MORE calories and saturated fat than an entire Happy Meal at another popular chain: burger, fries, cola.
It is hard to have a balanced diet when you eat out and do not even know what is in the food you are consuming. Some of us try to read labels, but often we miss the most crucial piece of information: how many SERVINGS are in the box.
A survey of supposedly "individual pizzas," the ones in a small box, showed that some of them were listing the calories and fat and so on as quite low, until you discovered that the pizza, about the size of your hand, was actually listing the nutritional value based on EIGHT servings.
So diet is not as straight-forward a concept as you might think, unless you start to cook for yourself and keep track of what you are eating. Taking control of your diet is easy thanks to the many tools on the internet now. You can look up great nutritional information, find healthy recipes to add to your diet, and use tools to track what you are eating every day, and each week, to make sure you have a balanced diet.
Having a balanced diet is not all about following the latest and greatest weight loss regimen. It means education yourself and making conscious decisions about what you eat, and how much.
And even if it takes some time, aren't you worth it? Your diet is the cornerstone of your health and wellness. We all spend a great deal of time planning our vacations, our holidays, what kind of car we want to buy.
In the same way, you should be planning your diet. Why not go for the Rolls Royce? You can live well with a healthy diet. All it takes is some education and a little forward planning.
