Love at first sight
You are walking on a street and caught an eye contact with a total stranger. Suddenly you feel a rush of excitement going through your mind. You smile, he/she smiles. Next thing you know you are remembering him/her in the end of that day. By some strange coincidence you meet again at a party and your friend introduces you to each other. The attraction is so high that you both can sense it and as you get to know each other more, both of you get the feeling that you were meant to meet just to fall in love. This is a typical scenario of a love from first sight.
Once we break down the situation and analyze it, we will realize that love from first sight is primarily built on physical attraction and healthy sense of adventure. However from the many books and sources which teach us of love, we know that real love is much more complicated than that and usually takes patience and time to learn. Some of the components of real love are: mutual understanding, attention, empathy, care and support, patience, friendship, desire to adjust, selflessness and sacrifice.
Mutual understanding is normally a byproduct of similar culture, values and beliefs. People with different values and beliefs are usually incompatible and cannot have a long term relationship. Love at first sight overlooks this aspect. Another prerequisite for real love is ability and desire to give attention to your lover, when he or she needs it; however we must also be careful not to give too much attention and make the other person feel smothered and not free.
The very important part of true love is empathy our ability to get into our lover֒s shoes and try to understand his or her perspective. Real love also means caring and supporting each other; it also means being good friends and being able to adjust and meet each other in the middle, as opposed to pulling all strings your way. Among one of the most important rules of real love is selflessness. Selflessness is the ability to do whats best for your partner even if that hurts your own feelings and breaks your plans. True love can only happen when both people are ready to sacrifice their own interests for the sake of their beloved one (even if that completely puts them out of the picture).
Love at first sight is still love, but it is more like an explosion of feelings and therefore just like the real explosion it is usually short-lived Җ in most cases no more than a few months. Love at first sight can even happen without any real love compatibility between the two people, as it is primarily based on physical attraction.
However if the two people are really compatible and ready to get a little more serious then even such a superficial feeling as love at first sight can progress into something more durable and meaningful - the real love, but only if both people are willing to work for it. Even the most compatible couples have problems and wont be able to overcome them unless they are ready to put some effort into understanding each otherҒs point of view and making some compromises.
Love at first sight can rarely become something serious, but when it does the couples are really destined to be together and what they eventually end up with is very special.
