What to do when your ex wants to get back together
So, your ex wants to get back together with you, but you're not interested? There is no question that such a situation is quite a difficult one. It can be even tougher if there are no hard feelings and you would still like to remain friends. You will have to ensure that you resist any temptation you may have to give in and get back together.
Of course there is always the chance that it could be the right thing to do. Perhaps that's part of why you think you really don't want to patch things up. Needless to say, sorting out all of these different emotions isn't easy. Should you give in and try again? Before you answer that, it is vital that you take an objective look at what led to your break up.
Are these things that are fixable? Are there things that you cannot forgive, no matter how much you would like to? Are you willing to change? Has your ex changed? What will make things different this time? You need to answer all of those questions and more. If you are not 100% sure that you want to get back together with your ex after answering these questions, then it's best to stay separated; at least for now. To be blunt, the fact that your ex wants to get back together is not a good enough reason, by itself, to change your mind.
There are all kinds of reasons why people break up. What it normally comes down to is two things: A irreconcilable differences (read: not agreeing on anything and arguing) and a lack of communication. Needless to say, these things will have to be fixed if there will be any chance of getting back together.
Talk to your ex about all of the things we have mentioned so far. See if they have a realistic view, or are living in a world of fantasy. If they are being realistic, then you may wish to progress slowly towards the idea of getting back together. However, if they are not facing up to the facts, and not grounded in reality, then feel free to stay friends.
Over time your ex may start to realize what really happened, and have a more clear idea of what it will take to get back together. When this happens, you will basically have to go through the same process of asking yourself (and each other) some serious questions about your past and your future.
Finally, if your ex wants to get back together, be sure that they are not trying to manipulate you. If you find you are feeling guilty or jealous, then you need to take a step back and find out if those feelings are real, or if your ex is playing games. Obviously, if they're playing games, then you will not want to get back together with them. You shouldn't reconcile because you feel pressured, you should do it because you really want to.
