Sitting body language-non verbal signals we may be sending
So, what do you think that sitting body language means? The non-verbal signals that people send out into the universe are important clues as to what they are truly feeling. Non-verbal signals can be so intense that they will literally cancel out the spoken word. For instance, you could be talking and smiling but your eyes could be throwing daggers. Which signal do you think someone would pick up on and react to more? My guess would be the dagger eyes.
Anyway, there are all types of different body language that everyone sends out but sitting body language can tell you if someone is interested or not. That's right, You will be able to figure out how someone feels about you just by looking at how they are positioned when seated near you.
If you are in a night club situation and approach someone you are interested in check out how they respond to you by the way they sit. Do they run toward you and smile but are still sitting back in their chair? This means that they are somewhat interested but are still being cautious. If you do not make a good impression and they cross their legs and/or arms and turn away from you then you need to move on.
If you do make a good impression then they may turn further toward you and sit closer by leaning in to you and maybe putting their chin in their hand and making eye contact. This is good advice for social situations and if you are good at reading the signals then you can pick up on body language with out ever saying a word. Pay attention to anyone who is looking at you, too. Eye contact is a huge way to tell if someone is interested.
If a woman crosses her ankles as she is sitting you can be sure that she is relaxed and confident. She is projecting a sense of inner security. If a man sits with his ankles crossed then the same can be said of him. The man will also convey the same message if he crosses one leg over the other knee. If he should happen to grab his ankle with his hand then you can be sure that he is really relaxed and enjoying himself.
If the man sits with legs wide and arms crossed then he could be upset about something. If he is glaring or staring at someone then he probably is upset or feeling intimidated and his posture portrays this.
If you sit with your feet planted flat on the floor, this means you are practical and assertive. Or just maybe you have been threatened with bodily harm by your doctor or chiropractor to never cross your legs when you are sitting because it is not good for your back.
You can be considered quiet and introverted if your sitting body language shows your legs intertwined and you are leaning a little to one side or the other.
