Leather furniture for every style
I'm what you might call a home-decor addict. I follow an embarrassing amount of home decorating and furnishing blogs, and with all of the pieces on my wish list, I could furnish a few mansions, at least. I can't even narrow down to a specific style, so I've got everything from a simple, light Scandinavian house planned to a rich, luxurious, almost Baroque-style look. Today I think we'll just go through and define a few basics of some of my very favorite styles to help you with any redecorating, or just wish-list-making, you have going on now.
To get started, we'll go over that Scandinavian look I mentioned. It's one of the easiest styles to create in your home, but one of the most difficult to maintain, if you have any tendency to collect a lot of unnecessary things, like I do. Even so, it's well worth the effort it takes to keep it looking nice just because of the calm atmosphere it inspires. One of the main pieces to start with for this style is light to medium colored wood; exposed beams and a table are key elements to motivate the rest of a Scandinavian style renovation. The basic color scheme is white and the light or medium color of the wood. Simple leather furniture is a clean, classic choice for a sofa that fits perfectly in this style. For accent, a red pillow or lace-like decor gives just enough color. To make it a little more modern, you can even paint an accent wall black. It might sound like too much of a contrast, but as a backsplash or in small amounts, it can really make the room pop. Natural light is essential, so incorporate as many windows and skylights as you can. If your home has fewer windows than you'd like, keep to the light color scheme, and think more carefully before doing things like the black accent that will darken the room and bring contrast that could be overpowering in a room without natural light.
If you would like to create the rustic, country-style home, you're in luck. This look is easily customizable and personalized. For the bones of a room, distressed painted wood is always a staple. A neutral color scheme is a must, lots of tans, taupes, creams and light browns. Accent with whichever colors you want, as long as they're not neon or fluorescent. You can't go wrong with jewel tones or pastels. Leather furniture is perfectly at home in this style, especially the super-soft, crinkled leather. Natural light is also essential for this look, as it is reminiscent of the sun streaming in to the big windows of a farmhouse in the morning. It's a refreshing, clean style that lends itself well to personalization. Family heirlooms, antique store finds, and anything that strikes your fancy will be just right.
For an urban, big-city look, stick with a few basic colors. Charcoal and slate are a good base, and it's probably wise not to stray too far from those shades. Clean lines, straight or curved, are an absolute must. Simple shapes make the best embellishment- interesting to the eye, but not overwhelming frill. Stainless steel or black appliances- fridge, oven, dishwasher, etc- will help the kitchen match the rest of the house. Black leather furniture in a sleek style will complete the look, and help everything flow together seamlessly.
You may have noticed one element common to all of these styles- leather.
Leather furniture blends itself perfectly to nearly all tastes and fashions. Be it a lived-in, rustic home, a light and simple Scandinavian, an über-modern abode, or countless other choices, leather looks right at home. Not only that, it's also incredibly easy to care for, and will last for years. In fact, it's a good thing it goes with so many styles because it will most likely outlast any décor you're implementing now. Whether it's a plush sofa, sleek ottoman, unique wraparound or Dad's easy chair, leather can find a place in everyone's home.
If you've decided to invest in some
leather furniture, good for you! There is not too much to think about, other than what you want it to look like and what purpose it will fulfill. Just one tip, please make sure you measure the area where it will go, as well as the doorway you'll be bringing it in by. No one wants to be stuck on the front porch with a beautiful couch they can't get inside. From there, good luck and happy decorating!
