Garage flooring and organization
Your garage has it pretty rough. Of all the rooms in the house, there is probably none that has to put up with more. Not only do we fill it with all sorts of mismatched odds and ends, but we also expect there to be some sort of organizational system so we can find one specific thing whenever we go in it, but we actually drive into this room too! Our cars bring in dirt and water and gravel and probably a few things stuck on your tires that you don't care to know about. And our garages put up with all of it. Now it is time to say thank you. If you were a garage, what sort of thanks do you think would be the most meaningful? You're right. A new floor.
Garage flooring is an element that is often overlooked, but I can promise you, few things will make such an incredible improvement in the appearance and feeling of your garage. Not only will it improve the aesthetics, but it will do a great deal of good as far as protecting your floor goes, as well. Thankfully, it is a surprisingly simple change to make. The vast majority of options you will find are tiles, and a few are roll-on styles. As I said, installation is quite simple, and usually just consists of snapping the tiles together until your floor is covered. Voila!
Tiles are available in a variety of styles. They come in a few different colors, most commonly black, slate and silver, although some companies also offer bright options like red and blue. You can choose between smooth, finished tiles or perforated tiles that allow for water drainage if your garage has a bit of a slope to allow water to escape to the outside. Some tiles only require a bit of snapping and they are good to go, and others will require you to lay down some adhesive. The adhesive will take a bit longer, but it is still a simple process. When they get dirty, most tiles can simply be hosed down for a quick cleanup.
Of course, if you are replacing your floor, this is the perfect time to think about improving your garage organization system. It's pretty obvious, but shelving, shelving, shelving. If you want to keep your garage looking nice (and be able to see your nice new floor!) you absolutely must have shelving and/or cabinets. They really are essential to any organization plans, and after your new
garage flooring, there is nothing that will make you garage look better faster. Cabinets are customizable to your specific storage and space needs, and will help you get everything off the floor and into its own place.
After those two things, most of the improvements you can make in your garage will mostly depend on the kinds of things you need to keep in your garage. Are you wild for winter sports? Maybe you need some sort of winter sports zone in which to keep all of your equipment where it is easily accessible and safe from damage. Hooks are a good idea for boards and skis, whereas smaller accessories like goggles, gloves and hats can go in hanging baskets. Next time you spontaneously decide to hit the slopes, you will not need to search all over the house for what you need because it will all be organized into one spot in your newly organized garage.
Same goes for all sorts of sporting goods. When the weather starts warming up and the ball for spring sports gets rolling, you might also have soccer balls, basketballs, footballs and volleyballs rolling around as well. Instead of risking your life by tripping over them every time you go out to the car, and then not being able to find the one you want until you find it deflated under a car tire, implement a simple storage solution like a large basket for all your unruly sports supplies.
From covering up stains and protecting your floor, the
garage flooring options that are available are sure to stand up to whatever your needs are. And maybe it will inspire you to make some other changes, too!
