Sediment water filtration- is one to consider

Home improvement RSS Feed

It's not uncommon to see "swirlies" in your glass of drinking water, you know those little sediments that you only discover after you've finished your water. These sediments are more than just gross, they are a potential health hazard. The good news is that with a sediment water filtration system you might be able to keep the sediments where they belong... in the lake.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that most of the sediments found in drinking water aren't just harmless little bits of dirt but rather are usually contaminants in that dirt, generally one of the following: oil, ammonia, petroleum or arsenic.

Many people have become concerned with the quality, or lack thereof, of their water in recent years, but, due to the current economic downturn may not have the budget to buy the expensive bottled waters.

If that describes you, it might be helpful to know that you can get a whole house sediment water filtration system that in the long run, will be considerably less expensive than buying bottled water week after week. And since you don't have all that plastic it will also be better for the environment.

There are many types of filtering systems available but the one that is used the most often, and considered by many to be the best, is the carbon filter system. Since you really want to clean your water completely, and not just remove sediment, you want a filter that can also get rid of chlorine, pathogens and lead.

To accomplish that, a carbon filter will most likely be your first choice. When it comes to a carbon filter purifying system, you still have options. Many of these systems only have a single stage filtration method (that means there is only one filter and if it becomes clogged it can miss some contaminants).

To be assured you are getting the absolute clearest and cleanest water possible for your home, you should consider investing in a multi stage carbon filter system. That way, if the first filter becomes clogged, or just misses some contaminants for whatever reason, the second filter will pick up the slack.

No matter which type of filtration system you get you will need to make sure to change the filters on a regular basis. Some filters have built in gauges that will notify you when it is time to change them. In most cases, replacement filters are pretty inexpensive.

When you get a whole house system, you are making sure that all the water you and your family use everyday is contaminant free. That's why these systems are preferable to just a single faucet or pitcher system.

To install a whole house filtration system you may need to hire a plumber (though if you are a DIY'er you can probably do it yourself). Once the system is installed the only maintenance it will need is for you to occasionally replace the filters.

Using a sediment water filtration system in your house to make sure your water smells good, tastes good and is actually good for you just makes sense. It's cost effective and can help protect you and your family.
