For small breeds that are quick you don’t want a model that opens on the side, as there is a good possibility that they can get out when the door is open. A top opening is better for these breeds. On the other hand, some animals will be easier to maintain with a lower door if there will be extensive and frequent cleanings.
The structure should have a sufficient lamp to keep the animal warm enough. Again, without the right setup they will slip into shock and die, either from being too hot or too cold. This will take some adjustments to get it just right but it will pay off in good health for your pet.
The right setup will also be easy to maintain. This means the ability to clean it on a regular basis. Many of these smaller animals are very susceptible to disease, mold, mildew, etc. Plus, if they have a standing water source it is easy to knock it over. This has to be cleaned up immediately, as well as any old food to prevent making the animal sick.

Even though someone can do a remarkable job of describing a structure there is no match for seeing it in person and visualizing it in your home.
