Water filtration faucet - your step up to fresher water

Home improvement RSS Feed

Adding a water filtration faucet to your home is an excellent way to take additional steps for a fresh water supply. Some people might not think that they can be effective, given their small stature, but they offer a surprisingly good barrier of protection.

For those who start their search for these products they will soon see that there is a plethora of options available. The makes and models are similar in function, but there are two main differences: price and method of installation. These areas will have to be sorted through in order to pick the one that best suits the needs of your home.

This particular type of filtering device can either be connected as a separate fixture or it can be placed as the primary fixture in the kitchen. That is not to say that the unit can’t also go somewhere else, such as in a master bathroom, but the kitchen is generally where these will be located. Another popular location is in a home bar where fresh water can be added when mixing drinks.

When shopping for your model you will have to take into account the type and size of the filter. Since aesthetics are important for a kitchen the filters are generally mounted below the counter so that they are not visible and so they won’t draw the eye’s attention. There are models that have the filter built into the handle so it will come down to whether you want a larger unit next to the sink or a sleek design that does not draw attention to itself.

The filters on these models can be amazingly elaborate. When you talk about trapping particles there is so much to consider that your best bet is to have your water tested so that you will have a better idea of what you need to concentrate on.

The filters come with different membrane sizes in order to concentrate on individual particles. Contaminants come in different sizes so the filter membranes have to be able to accommodate them in order to be effective. Some of these systems can trap particles down to 0.5 microns, or approximately 1/100th the size of a single human hair.

When shopping for these units they will be categorized according to the size of micron that they capture. Just to compare, the size of a single micron is 1 millionth of a meter. The smaller the micron they can capture, the better the water filtration faucet will do at cleaning up your water.
