Vegetable gardening - your own organic vegetables
As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing quite like being able to go right out in your own back yard and pick some ingredients for that nights dinner. Vegetable gardening is a wonderful hobby that can actually provide you with something very tangible to show for your efforts... food.
If you already have a vegetable garden you already know the joy you can get from gardening, and if you don't, you need to know that it's very easy to start your own garden.
You don't need to learn alot about growing your own vegetables. Everything you need to know can be learned right from your local garden center. Or, if you prefer, you can easily find many gardening books that will provide you with the basics. It's really not that hard to grow vegetables. It won 't take a long to learn and you can learn a little here and a little there.
Starting a garden is very low in cost. The seeds usually cost around a dollar, even less, and you get dozens of seeds in each packet. If you would rather, you can go to a lawn and garden center and buy seedlings, small plants that can be transplanted right into your garden. This method will cost a little more but it is still inexpensive.
If you aren't sure what vegetables you want to plant, just pick out several of your favorite vegetables and plant those. The usual things that people plant are tomatoes, broccoli, corn, onions, green beans, potatoes, etc.
Once you've picked out the vegetables you want to plant, all you have to do is find out what types of preparation you need to do for those vegetables. For example, some vegetables such as cucumbers tend to need a lot of room since they will grow long vines. This may not be a good option for anyone who has a small yard.
Corn tends to be one of those plants that sucks up a lot of nutrients so you don't want plant it in the same area for more than two years in a row.
Once you've got that all set up, you can just do a layout of your garden area. You can use some string to and stakes to plot out your garden area. Or, if you think it would be easier, take some paper and a pencil and lay it all out on paper before you even start digging.
Once you've got the layout down, all you have to do is plant. After your research you will have an idea of how deep you need to plant each vegetable and how far apart each vegetable plant should be from the other.
Vegetable gardening is not hard to do but the rewards can be a huge amount of fun. It's really easy to learn all the techniques you need to learn in order to put in your garden. Even if you have no experience in gardening you can easily learn all you need to grow your own garden. Have fun.
