Getting fit with a weight loss dvd
Working out in a gym is simply not to everyone's taste, especially if shy about appearances. And many of us plain don't enjoy jogging, bicycling or walking to stay fit and shed pounds. If you'd like to avoid audiences, the weather and the outdoor environment, why not exercise indoors in the comfort of your own home with an exercise DVD?
Among the many, many weight loss DVDs on the market there is certainly one that is suitable for you. Choose by thinking about how much weight you intend to lose, how quickly you want to shed it (be realistic), and how dedicated you can be about your exercise program.
Be careful when reading about exercise DVDs that are ‘suitable for beginners’. Many are in fact more advanced than they may appear. Working out what is suitable for you if you are just setting out may require some background research through websites on fitness and health. Check out their forums and look for threads for beginners or ‘newbies’ to exercise DVDs. Of course if you already know what you are looking for and you are pretty well practiced then there is no problem in choosing the right weight-loss DVD for you.
Googling the exercise DVD of your choice with the word ‘review’ as part of the search may also bring up some useful information. Remember to look at as many reviews as possible though! Don't let one bad or good review influence you before you've read around a little. Generally, long reviews are more informative than short ones.
Look for the following information from user-reviews: Did the people using the DVD get what they wanted? How much weight did they lose, how quickly? Was it enjoyable? Does the reviewer seem like a similar person to you, or very different? (If they love small repetitive moves but you're an energetic 70s disco freak, maybe their idea of a good program is not going to be the same as yours.)
Another good source of information is the review section of fitness magazines. You might want to take out a subscription to keep you inspired. Fitness experts writing for these magazines generally have a very good idea of what they are talking about. They are exercising and often teaching other people how to exercise every day. Look for assessments of safety levels, ease of learning and time required for the fitness DVD workout you're considering.
One of the most important points to consider is how fit you really are at the moment. Don't underestimate it or you won't get full value from your exercise DVD. But don't overestimate it, especially if it's been a while since you were last really fit. Otherwise, you run the risk of disappointment and disillusionment and, worse, injury. If you're not sure, it's better to underestimate and be glad that you're fitter than you thought!
Remember too that different forms of exercise use different muscles in different ways. If you're a yoga fan, you may not be great at running straight away, and vice versa. A good cyclist is not necessarily a good aerobics student. Etc. So, in estimating your fitness level, make allowances for the fact that you may have ‘specialised’ in one sport, and estimate your fitness level down a little (or a lot) for different forms of exercise accordingly.
And, like they recommend on the back of the exercise DVDs, you might want to check with your doctor before starting out on a new exercise regime. This is especially true, of course, if you have an existing health condition such as diabetes, a heart condition or high blood pressure.
But if you take it at an appropriate speed, there is no reason why you can't get fit,
lose weight quickly,get rid of love handles and
lose man boobs in your own front room. Enjoy it!
