The ability to write a lot of articles and submit them to your own sites, as well as the top article directories, is one of the best ways of promoting your offer online. However, all of this can take a lot of work and much of that work is repetitive. Article marketing automation makes the whole process much easier. Writing the article is the easy part. Submitting the article to various places may not be incredibly difficult, but it takes a lot of time. You need to log in to each article directory, fill in all of the information that each directory requires, and then enter the article itself.
Then there is also the issue of duplicate content. If you submit the exact same article to a bunch of directories, then you run the risk of being penalized by the search engines as they may only show the results from one or two directories instead of all of the ones you submitted to. The way around that is to make variations of the same article so the search engines think you gave each directory a unique article.

You can either buy software that does most of it for you: you enter the article, add the information for each directory you wish to submit to (this takes a bit of time, but you only need to do it once), press a button or two and you're good to go. Your other choice is to hire a service which will do all of these tasks for you. You send them your article, and their staff does the rest. Either method is fine, and will generate positive results for your business.
