Obesity in america today-dont blame it all on golden arches
OK, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know when I tell you that obesity in America today is a growing problem, pardon the pun. As I write this article I glance up at the t.v. and see a commercial for McDonalds. It isn't just the golden arches that are responsible for our expanding waistlines, truth is we have to become accountable and be willing to make some simple changes to our daily habits.
Hey, I'm just as guilty as anyone when it comes to the comfort food and the ease of the drive through lane. But I also know that if I want to stay at a healthy weight and keep my body functioning properly I have to take control. Eating out less, making better choices when I do eat out and getting a lot of exercise are the simple things I can do everyday that will help keep me healthy and out of the hospital... and so can you.
Here are some easy changes you can do starting right now to prevent yourself from becoming one of those obesity in America today statistics:
1. Don't try to do everything all at once, just start with one thing at a time. Start by cutting out the amount of soda you drink every day (or at least cut way back). Or cut out that morning pastry. For now, just start with one thing and go from there.
2. Add more servings of fruits (or vegetables) to your daily diet. If it's easier to just make one or two changes at a time, than start there, as long as you start today. As you go along you can increase the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables that you eat every day.
3. Drink more water every day. Many people in the U.S. are actually suffering from dehydration. It's not because we don't have enough water, it's because we don't drink enough water. Most beverages like soda and coffee don't really do much to keep your body hydrated, we drink them more for taste. We need to start drinking more water to keep our bodies hydrated and flush toxins out of our system.
If you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated. It's best to drink water before you actually start to feel thirst.
4. Get moving. You can start small, just park your car further away from the store or from your place of work (have you ever gotten behind those people who will sit and wait for 5 minutes just to get a parking space closer to the door??!, just walk for crying out loud!) most of us can benefit from a little more walking during our day.
Obesity in America today can be controlled, and you can start with you. There is no need to get overwhelmed and feeling like you have to do it all at once. Start with easy and simple day to day changes. Just change one aspect of your diet and one aspect of your fitness for now. When you've made those changes permanent, than move on to something else.
