The pace of life used to be much slower. Sure, there was a lot of work to be done, but it was done with purpose and things moved differently than they do now. A lot of theories have been proposed as to what changes in our collective lifestyle have led to the obesity epidemic. While some may disagree, I believe a lot of it can be attributed to the faster pace of modern life. Easy diets of fast food and pre-packaged foods laden with salt, sugar and fat have replaced wholesome, home-cooked meals.
Of course we can't blame everything on the speed with which we live our lives because that we leave out our personal responsibility for how much we weigh. If making excuses made people thinner, the obesity problem would practically vanish overnight. None of this matters if we can't change our "diets of ease" into "easy diets".
The diet industry has done its best to convince us that an easy diet exists. Want proof? Just look at any diet program and see if they mention how complicated it will be to make their recipes, or how long it will take to get used to eating in a different way, or how much time you will have to spend exercising. Good luck! Every diet I have ever seen (and there have been hundreds) tries to hype up how easy it is. That's marketing. They understand that we feel busier than ever, and are quick to prey on our desire for a quick fix.
Does that mean all hope is lost? Not at all! Because there is good news. There are several easy diets out there, and there are also packaged foods that are better than ever.
The simplest diets are those that use basic substitutions for the things you are already cooking with; replacing ground beef with ground turkey breast, for example. Such an approach doesn't require any changes to your routine. All you need to do is buy different things from the grocery store and then prepare them as you normally would. Talk about easy!
Substituting ingredients assumes you do a lot of cooking at home, and that may not be the case. Not to worry, because some food makers have finally figured out that people are looking for not only easy meals to make, but one that aren't loaded with calories. Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice are just two examples that you can buy in the store. And we're not talking about the typical meatloaf TV dinner. You can get meals that are inspired by all kinds of cuisine and actually taste fantastic.
The other main option for easy diets is to get pre-packaged foods delivered directly to your home. NutriSystem and Jenny Craig are two such companies. While you may pay a bit more than you would at the store, it just doesn't get any easier. Your diet plan is already figured out, and all of your meals are ready to go.
