To lose weight naturally can mean different things to different people. Some people may think that taking supplements and weight loss pills is still natural as long as those supplements are all natural herbal remedies. Others may consider taking any type of weight loss aid, natural or not, to not be the best approach.

No matter which side of the debate you fall on, one thing is for certain, when it comes to losing weight, getting in shape, and most importantly, keeping it off for the rest of your life it is a very important thing to do.

To lose weight naturally it's really pretty easy, in theory, you need to use up more calories than you take in. This is generally accomplished in two main ways, eating less (and eating the right types of foods) and getting more exercise so you burn more calories. You can do one of these things at a time but to optimize your overall results it's best to combine them.

Eating a balanced diet with the right portion sizes throughout your day is really all most people will need, though I'm not a doctor and I can't give out medical advice - you should always check with your doctor before you start any type of diet or exercise plan, many people will do quite well by eating a balanced diet.

It's also important to remember to drink enough water throughout your day. Many people drink everything but water, whether it is soda, coffee, tea or juice, but they don't drink enough water. Ideally you should drink water often enough throughout your day so that you
don't feel thirsty. When you start to feel thirsty you are already dehydrated.

Along with diet it's also a good idea to get more exercise. So many people think of exercise in terms of long boring hours in the gym on a treadmill or stair stepper, but in reality exercise comes in many forms, and a lot of those forms don't involve a boring gym routine.

For the most part, any type of movement is exercise. You can go for a walk, swim, bike ride, take your dog for a walk, go dancing, do yoga or Pilates, go ice skating or sledding, whatever. Moving can help you burn more calories.

When you combine some weight training to your exercise plan you can really double up on the benefits you get. For example, when you lift weight on a regular basis you will increase the amount of lean muscle mass that you have. When you have more lean muscle mass your body will burn calories all day every day, no matter what you are doing.

Another cool benefit of building some lean muscle mass is that you will look more toned and not so big. Muscle kind of acts like a girdle and it can "hold you in" which can make you appear smaller than you really are in some cases.

It's not that hard to lose weight naturally, you don't need a bunch of supplements or gadgets to get in shape, all you need to do is talk to your doctor to make sure it's ok and then exercise more and eat less. For most people that's all it will take. Don't make it harder than it has to be.
