Dating rules - common sense direction
What are the dating rules you both need to live by when starting a new relationship? Well, first and foremost, you both need to be good to yourselves. It stands to reason that if you are good to yourself then you can be good to someone else.
Another rule to live by is to not take things too seriously in the beginning, just have fun with each other. The serious stuff can come later. Do not rush right in and start living together. Responsibility is for married folks or those in a long term relationship. If you are just starting out then you just do not need to go there. Just have fun and get to know each other.
Take things slowly and that includes intimacy and sex. There is no rush for this step either. It doesn't matter how old you are when you meet and decide to date each other there is no excuse for jumping into bed with each other. take your time and once again, get to know each other, talk about things and learn to communicate well together. This will make all the other more serious stuff a lot easier because you two can talk things out and will not be afraid to express your opinions.
Another of the dating rules is to learn to give and take equally. Do not get all caught up in only doing things the other one wants to do. Assert yourself and make sure that each one of you gets to do what you want to do even though the other one might not want to. Neither one of you should ever try to control the other. That is not a relationship, that is a dictatorship and very unhealthy.
Nurturing your new relationship and shaping it to be the best it can be is a healthy way of beginning a life together, if that is what is part of the plan, more or less anyway. Treating each other with respect, trust and admiration is important in learning to nurture your new relationship. Respect and trust can be learned and let me say that loving someone and trusting them with your life can be a very scary thing but, when it happens and is reciprocated, it can be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Never jump from one relationship to another without taking some time to work through the last one first. Spend some time alone without being in a relationship for a time. Get to know who you are and analyze the reasons your previous relationship failed.
If you are the one who was the cause of the break up because of something you did, you need to figure out why you did it. Did you purposely sabotage the relationship because you wanted out and is sabotage something you have a habit of doing to all relationships? If it is you may need to get some counseling to work out the reasons why you have trouble following all the dating rules.
