Dating for teenagers should be fun and not be taken too seriously. Teenage romances come and go quickly and then it is on to the next. Some teenagers take the end of one relationship very hard and do not handle things well. This is when, as a parent we need to step in and help our teens through the rough spots.
Do not let them be alone for the first few days no matter what they say. They do not make the rules and even though they are in pain and seem to not want you around, they need you now more than ever. It is ok to baby them just a little, treat them as if they are small again for just a little while. Make their favorite things to eat and drink. They need to feel special again and as a parent we know how to do that for our babies.
What should be the best time of their lives can be shattered in a instant with a break up of a relationship. For the most part, teenagers do not know how to be in relationships. I know that that is what being a teenager is all about though, learning the social skills they need to be well adjusted, productive adults.
Dating for teenagers is tough. First of all, they do not have a lot of money and also not too many choices as to where they can go. Earn some extra money by doing things around the house for your parents. Cut the grass, rake the lawn, weed the garden, do anything extra that you do not normally do. Get a part-time job, do odd jobs around the neighborhood, and save what you make for your dates.
Some ideas for inexpensive places to take your dates are museum exhibits geared toward teens. Check their sites online to familiarize yourself with their special event calendar to see what they have coming up, maybe a concert or IMAX films.
Take your date bowling. Bowling is a great way to spend time together and it's cheap, too. Maybe your local bowling alley has a midnight bowling special for the teenagers. Food is inexpensive and you can get together with other friends and have a great time.
Look around for things to do that are free, like going to the park and throwing frisbees or flying kites. You can pack a lunch and picnic when you get hungry. After lunch, go swing on the swings just like you did when you were a little kid. Some parks offer disc golfing courses. You do have to have your own discs though but I don't think they are too expensive. Pick up a couple so you have them if this interests you. My son and his friends took me once and I had a blast. Turns out I am not such a bad shot, either.
Just remember dating for teenagers should be light-hearted and fun, creative and most of all as inexpensive as possible.
