Shy and dating is still very possible
If you happen to be the type of person who is painfully shy, dating is most likely very hard for you and you may even think it is totally out of the question. Well, I am here to tell you that it doesn't have to be that way. Whether you are 15 or 35 you can overcome your shyness and begin dating that one person you have had your eye on without making a fool of yourself.
You have probably heard it all before. People tell you how pretty you are and you should be having no trouble finding a date. What they do not see, or get, is that it does not matter in the least that you are pretty and have a nice smile, you are just too shy to even carry on a conversation with another person.
You may just be timid, bashful, introverted, or shy. All of which can be overcome maybe with a little therapy or just teaching yourself how to take chances. Dare yourself to go start a conversation with someone you do not know. Just walk right up and introduce yourself. Reach out and shake their hand, ask a question and get the conversation started.
Don't know what to say? Tell them you like a certain article of clothing they are wearing and ask where they got it. Simple, but be prepared for a very short answer. They may say I don't know or give you just the name of the store. In that case, tell them that whatever article of clothing it is really brings out the color of their eyes. When they smile and say 'thank you', you will be well on your way to making a new friend if nothing else and shy dating may start to be a thing of the past.
If, on the other hand, you have a condition called Social Anxiety Disorder then no matter what you want to do, you will not be able to. Social anxiety is the fear associated with performing, like speaking in public or interacting in front of a classroom of your fellow students.
Social anxiety is a very specific disorder and there is a specific place and time that you fear, such as, you going to the grocery store or into a restaurant by yourself. What you need to know first thing is, you are not alone. Social anxiety affects approximately one out of every eight people and usually will get worse with time.
In the area of treatment, there are very few programs available mostly because the people who are affected are too anxious or even embarrassed to seek out help. So therapy programs have not been developed to help the people afflicted with this disorder.
For someone who is withdrawn, dating is difficult but not out of the realm of possibility. For someone with social anxiety just making it through from day to day is nearly impossible due to feelings of shame, humiliation and embarrassment and dating is not even a consideration.
