Sample interview questions - answers you will need
Nervous about your big interview? Do you want to make sure that you don't blow the only interview you've had in months? Well, don't worry. Preparation is the key and having good answers ready to the questions you will be asked will help. Here is a sample interview question, actually several questions so that you can be prepared.
First things first. If you want to make a good impression spend some time researching the company you are applying with. Knowing a little about the company and it's background will make it easier for you to answer questions as well as help you come up with some smart questions to ask. All of this will make you seem like a serious and determined candidate, and that is what companies are looking for.
Once you've got your background research done, make sure you take a little time on your appearance. It's just as an important part of the process as having good answers ready. Get your hair cut, don't go overboard on perfume or cologne. Wear appropriate, clean and ironed
clothes.
Arrive a few minutes early. Respect the interviewers time. Be polite and ask questions but don't start regurgitating your whole life.
Some of the most common questions you will likely face during your interview will be:
1. What can you bring to our company?
Try to be as specific as possible. Stay away from the generic responses like:"I have a great work ethic", "I'm a team player", etc.
Instead say something like: "At my last company I initiated a campaign which brought in X number of new accounts". Be specific about your accomplishments. You are selling yourself, don't be shy. This isn't the time for modesty. Don't lie, but definitely highlight all the good points you can.
2. What are the your biggest strengths and weaknesses?"
Again, be specific and start with strengths. If possible make your weaknesses seem like strengths. For example, instead of saying that you're a hot head and won't listen to other people's opinions, you may say that you're passionate and hold yourself to a high standard. Saying something like that and listing it as a negative will give it a positive spin.
3. What are your salary requirements?
I personally hate that question. I always prefer them to say what they will offer that way I don't have to worry about low balling myself. But if you have to answer that question try to answer vaguely if possible. Instead of listing a specific dollar amount you may be able to say, "Given my level of experience I would like a salary at the top end of the scale for this position"
Do your homework before you go in to your interview. Find out what others with your experience level and in your area would be making. That way if the interviewer pushes you for a more specific amount you will be ready.
