Preparing For Job Interview - Are You Ready Today

Taking time preparing for job interview is more important than ever. The current economic climate makes getting an interview very difficult and you really need to make the most out of the opportunity. The exact preparation will vary somewhat depending on the position you are applying for, but some basics will still apply.

Of course to even get invited to an interview you will need to provide a really good job application or resume. Don't try to rush through filling out your application or creating your resume. Take time to do it right. Look at it as if you were the one doing the hiring: would you even want to interview this person based on the application or resume they turned in? Set yourself apart.

Here are some other tips that can make the job interview process work out the way you hope:

1. Do some research on the company you are applying with. Find out the average pay for the position you are applying for. Find out if your experience level puts you at the top or the bottom for the position you are applying for.

Taking the time to find out a little about the company before your interview will show the prospective employer that you're eager to work and it will also make it easier for you to answer their questions.

Give some thought to the questions they will likely ask so you can have your answers ready to go. The last thing you want to do is be stammering all through your interview. The more prepared you are, the more relaxed you can be.

2. Pick out some specific questions to ask during the interview. Interviews aren't just one way conversations. Most of the time the interviewer will be impressed if you ask a few intelligent questions about what your role in the company will be, what types of advancement opportunities there are, how long the training process will be, etc.

Don't talk too much, but be able to ask smart insightful questions and the interviewer will know that you are a serious candidate for the job.

3. Dress appropriately! What is considered appropriate will vary from one business to another. Figure out what is appropriate for the company you are applying with. If suit and tie is worn, than wear a suit and tie. It would be virtually impossible to dress too nice (as long as you don't show up in a tux. In most cases it's better to dress a little 'up' than to dress down).

Women, keep the plunging necklines and sleeveless dresses in your closet. Wear appropriate business attire.

Of course, be clean shaven, have a good haircut and a nice neat appearance is a must too. Also go easy on the cologne and perfume. Just because you see actors in commercials sporting the 'scruffy' look, that doesn't mean you'll get hired if you go into an interview looking like you just rolled out of bed.

To give yourself the absolute best chance at landing that great new job, take some time preparing for job interview before the big day. Don't think that you can just read over some notes on the elevator ride up.
