Where to buy safety razors
If you are wondering where to buy safety razors, all you have to do is go to your local department store and look in the shaving aisle. Here you can find any and all the shaving equipment you could ever want or need. There are several brands to choose from so take your time to figure out which one you would like the best.
Even though these are all referred to as safety razors you may want to check out online stores as good places on where to buy safety razors. The ones you will find at these online stores are just like the ones your grandfather, and maybe even father, has used. These are the straight-forward one blade double edged razors.
These are the razors used by the people who understood that razors and shaving was an art form, not just something to get out of the way as quickly as possible so you could start your day. I, for one, would love to see this art form make a resurgence. There is nothing like knowing you gave yourself a nice, clean, close shave with the same kind of razor that they used way back in the day.
Men of prehistoric times probably used a sharp tool they made themselves out of rock or flint to scrape the hair off of their faces. Can you imagine the trauma and cuts and scrapes they left? sounds like a big "ouch!" to me.
I bet even barber shops do not do near as many shaves as they used to. Straight razors are still in use but not to the degree they used to be. Even if they are I do not believe they need to be stropped to be sharpened. With so many other ways to sharpen blades these days why would you want to work so hard to strop a blade? Maybe only if you were trying to be like they were in the old days.
Like I said shaving used to be an art form and it is too bad that it had to go by the wayside in favor of convenience. Maybe it just is looking back is more of a nostalgia thing. That way back in the day it was all they knew and did not consider getting a good shave an art form. It just worked it's way into one.
You could probably find an original safety razor made in the early 1900s if you spent some time at flea markets and even garage selling. Estate sales and auctions may be good places to find them also. I have no idea if things like that are worth anything today, they may be but just to start collecting might be something you are interested in.
Even if you aren't but want to try shaving like they used to do it you may find a new passion for the old school way of doing things. I think it would be cool if you did and then passed it down to your son and so on and so forth. A new family tradition of doing things the old way. Maybe I will figure out where to buy safety razors and buy one for my son who is having his golden birthday this year.
