Before moving on to what is carpeting and what are the different types of carpeting present in the market let’s first take the look at the question what is carpet? Carpet is a textile floor covering which consists of an upper layer of “pile” which is attached to a “backing”. Hence, the materials from which the piles are made differ, like they can be woven, needle-felt, knotted and many more. These different types of pile give different properties to the carpet; hence, they are used for some specific function only. Carpeting is the fabric which carpets are made from. There are various different types of carpeting present in the market, thus giving the user with a wide variety to choose from. This article mentions some different types of carpeting present in the market.
Firstly there is textured cut pile carpet, which is considered as a luxurious carpet as its thick and textured surface hides the vacuum and the footprint marks therefore it is used as a decorative carpet, usually in the drawing rooms and sometimes in guestrooms. Other than that its use has also been seen in some expensive homes and five star hotels. Another feature of this carpeting is that it adds beauty to the room. Secondly, there is Saxony. This is again the cut pile carpet but it is refined. The carpet is extensively popular and known for its soft and comfortable texture, which is achieved by twisting the yarn tightly together with each other and then straightening them with heat. These are specifically used for dining rooms and living rooms. This type of carpeting adds a distinctive elegance to the room wherever they are placed.
The third type of carpeting present in the market is the loop pile or Berber. This carpeting gives rough wool like look. This type of carpeting is usually used in corridors in hotels or in rooms where heavy foot traffic is expected. The carpeting gives an appearance of natural warm and personal atmosphere and it hides the footmarks and the vacuum marks. This type of carpeting is also suitable for variety of room styles as they just seem to fit in with style.
Fourthly there is frieze, and it is used to add personality to any room. This carpeting is quite thick and made up of different colors and this carpeting is also used for decoration purposes as well. The fifth type of carpeting present in the market is Cut/Loop, which come in different sharp colors and these accent colors helps in spicing up the room floor. These carpet has different multicolor effects as well which helps greatly in hiding any stain present on the carpet, thus this carpeting is suitable for both formal and informal type of rooms.
Commercial Loop is the sixth type of carpeting present in the market and is quite popular as well in the market as they easily blend in with any kind of decor. This carpeting is designed especially for the areas which are bound to receive high traffic.
